This course is open to native speakers of Chinese as well as those with two years college Chinese. The working language is Chinese but frequently bilingual to foster discussions about such topics as nationality, ethnicity and gender identity. The original materials are taken from novellas, narrative films and Chinese classics. These modes of communication are examined as translingual practices between languages, cultures, and traditions particular to a historical period, unique to a political discourse, or distinctive of a social class. Students will answer essay questions using their own lexicon to paraphrase and translate what they read, rooted in various discursive environments. (AH, GE) 所有选过两年大学汉语或母语为中文的同学都可以选这门课。本课的目的是让那些对文化认同、身份和性别认同感兴趣的同学能够掌握讨论这些跨语言话题的技能。课件大多来自中国电影、短篇小说、诗歌及传统经典。这些哲学、艺术和文学作品促进了跨时代，跨文化，跨学术领域，跨地域和语言的交流。大家必须用自己所熟悉的词汇和话语风格来解读和评论这些文化产物，了解其历史渊源、阶级属性、政治倾向及文化偏见。 |
